Skin tags are benign skin growths that usually form in the neck, eyelids, underarms and below the breast area. However, did you know that skin tags could also develop in your genitals? Common skin tags are embarrassing enough. Imagine having hanging skin on your genitals. Isn’t it more humiliating? The only way to prevent this humiliation is by removing the genital skin tags. Fortunately, whether you are suffering from vaginal or penile skin tags, there are ways to remove them. Read on to learn more.
What Are Genital Skin Tags?
Genital skin tags are simply skin tags located at the genital areas, i.e. vagina (or vaginal skin tags for women) and penis (penile skin tags for men). Skin tags located on your genitalia can be embarrassing. These hanging skin tags can be felt by you and your partner during coitus. While these skin tags are benign, people still often make the mistake of associating skin tags with sexually transmitted diseases. Some people also think of genital skin tags as infectious. However, just as other skin tags found in normal areas such as on the neck and eyelids, skin tags found on your genitalia are actually harmless and benign. Because of the common misconceptions related with genital skin tags, many people (both men and women) are eager to be rid of these skin tags.
Removing Vaginal Skin Tags
Obviously, vaginal skin tags are those skin tags located in the vaginal area, specifically located on the labia area. The labia are part of the vagina around the vulva area. Aside from skin tags, the labia are also prone to acquiring different types of skin growths like warts, polyps and cysts. Unfortunately, all women can develop vaginal skin tags. In fact, even infants also have a chance of developing these skin growths. However, adult women are more likely to develop these hanging skin tags, especially pregnant women. The cause of vaginal skin tags is also unknown, just like typical skin tags found in normal areas. Since these skin tags are benign, they do not usually cause irritating symptoms. However, it is possible for pain or irritation to occur when the skin is subjected to the friction of rubbing the area against other clothing or skin.
Removing vaginal skin tags may not be necessary, or recommended by your gynecologists, since they pose no harm or health problems. However, if there are irritating symptoms such as pain and irritation due to rubbing against clothes or skin, then removing vaginal skin tags can be removed by your gynecologist. Removing or treating vaginal tags usually involves cryotherapy as its primary method of removal.
Removing Penile Skin Tags
If women can develop vaginal skin tags, men develop what they call penile skin tags. Like vagina skin tags, penile skin tags are also benign skin growths. The only difference is that they are located on the penis. Again, the cause of skin tags on the penis is also unknown. It is believed that constant rubbing and irritation on the penis area that is probably due to masturbation or sexual intercourse are the primary causes of penile skin tags. Like vaginal skin tags, treating penile skin tags is straightforward as cutting the skin tags. There are different surgical methods in removing penile skin tags such as cryotherapy and ligation. All these surgical methods require local anesthesia. However, your doctor may conduct further tests to make sure that the skin growths are actually benign.
Removing vaginal skin tags and penile skin tags are actually pretty much the same as treating skin tags found in normal locations. When you decide to remove genital skin tags, make sure to have your doctors verify whether the skin tags are indeed benign or not.
